Many a “Trekkie” dreams of this and the action MMORPG and download online game “Star Trek Online” makes at least part of it possible. The big disappointment in advance: The Enterprise cannot be controlled in the game and it does not appear in the story about the Romulans, Cardassians and Borg.

At its core, the download online game Star Trek Online is an action game and you earn your day’s work by fighting. Only a few missions can be solved diplomatically and even the research missions on the planet’s surfaces usually involve battles against the dominant species. The fights in space are the highlight of the game. Here the captain is allowed to control his ship, give orders to the crew and must keep track of shield and weapon energy. The battles on the ground in Star Trek Online are the exact opposite. The character controls sluggishly and the AI can only really become dangerous in large numbers. It’s too easy to flank the opponents and take them apart with well-aimed shots. Sometimes there are complete blackouts, which ensure that opponents don’t react at all, even though you are only centimeters in front of them.
